Marceline Michelle Sciuto ‘79

Marceline Sciuto is a 3rd generation native of San Diego, California, the eldest of 3 daughters of retired San Diego Police Department Sergeant Gordon Clausen and his wife Marceline Mendoza-Clausen. A central office administrator for the San Diego Unified School District, Mrs. Sciuto has worked in the education field since 1986 as teacher, project resource teacher, peer coach, vice principal, principal, department director, and division head. She currently oversees several departments including Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options, Transportation, Distribution, Instructional Facilities Planning, Charter Schools, and Transcripts and Records.
Mrs. Sciuto attended Santa Sophia Academy in Spring Valley, Kindergarten through 8th grade, and was active in ASB and cheerleading. She continued her Catholic school education at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, participating in many extra-curricular activities including dramatic productions and cheerleading (for both OLP and St. Augustine’s), and graduating in 1979. She attended San Diego State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Drama with an emphasis in Design for Stage, and minored in Spanish. She returned to SDSU to earn her multiple subject K-12 teaching credential, and again to earn her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration as well as her Professional Educational Administration credential. Mrs. Sciuto is currently enrolled in the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program at SDSU. She is also certified as a ScreenStrong Ambassador, helping parents to navigate the challenges of technology and child rearing.
Mrs. Sciuto is a former professional theatrical makeup artist, working for many years at the San Diego Civic Theatre for the San Diego Opera, San Francisco Ballet, Kirov Ballet, New York Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre, among others. Mrs. Sciuto is a current member of the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators. She has extensive experience in academic, report, and grant writing, as well as in community studies.
Her philanthropic involvements include serving as a board member for the Community Hands Network, a non-profit organization promoting music broadcast and DJ mentoring and animal habitat outreach programs for youth. She served many years as an active volunteer as a theatrical makeup designer and artist at Joan Kroc Salvation Army’s Junior Theatre, and currently serves as a volunteer Family Catechist and professional trainer of classroom Catechists for Santa Sophia and St. Therese Catholic Churches. Mrs. Sciuto is a volunteer with the ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter, fund raising and supporting families impacted by the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Mrs. Sciuto is bilingual (English-Spanish), and is currently studying Italian. Mrs. Sciuto is the proud mother of Angelina Ruiz, a 2020 UCLA graduate currently working for the Judge Baker Children’s Center at Harvard University, and Micaela Ruiz, a 2022 graduate of UCSD in Business Psychology and Communications, working as a digital sales and marketing coordinator for Rightlook.com. Mrs. Sciuto is newly married to Mr. Philip Sciuto, Saints ‘79. When she isn’t busy working or volunteering, Mrs. Sciuto enjoys traveling, cooking, writing, attending SDSU Aztec athletic events, and attending alumni functions for the Academy of Our Lady of Peace and St. Augustine high schools.
