Julia Marentez ‘97
Educator and Musician
Julia joins us with over 25 years of teaching and leadership experience within diverse learning communities in both public and private schools located in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Kapolei, Hawaii, and finally, bringing it full circle to the Diocese of San Diego. Julia is passionate about lifelong learning, continuous improvements, and advocating for increased inclusion in Catholic K-12 schools to improve the educational experience and maximize student learning so that all students can achieve their full potential.
Julia earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Liberal Studies and Chicano Studies, along with a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential from California State University Northridge, a Master of Arts degree and Administrative Credential in Educational Leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University, and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree, specializing in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Pre-K-12 School Leadership at San Diego State University. The combination of her experience and knowledge of special education, creating meaningful learning support programs, differentiated learning, Universal Design for Learning, providing 1:1 and group intervention support, monitoring student progress, and working cooperatively with parents, Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), and community resources, will enable her to strengthen the support services for our students.
As a proud OLP alumna and product of Catholic education, Julia brings a wide range of expertise and dedication to our Pilot community. With a deep commitment to Catholic education and enhancing educational opportunities for all students, she is eager to share her knowledge, experience, and leadership in the newly launched St. Joseph Scholars Program, and collaborate closely with faculty and counselors to provide an inclusive learning environment for young women with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities or significant learning challenges at OLP.
