Julia Torres

Founder of the Shine Bright Scholarship & 3/C Midshipman, United States Naval Academy

Julia Torres is a 2022 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. She is currently a 3/C Midshipman (sophomore) at the United States Naval Academy. She is also the founder of the Shine Bright Scholarship, which has aided aspirational students at OLP to continue their education with a lighter financial burden. At USNA, she raced for the Navy Women’s Crew Team last year and joined the Midshipmen Action Group. Her overall performance earned her the title of October’s Midshipman of the Month in her battalion. Her most influential position last semester was a training corporal, which had the role of introducing the company underclass to midshipmen life at the Naval Academy. This led her to being a Sea Trials Squad Leader, a point of leadership for the freshman class’s most difficult physical evolution. A highlight for her is receiving the opportunity to visit the Solomon Islands in the summer of 2024 to explore Marine Corps battle sites such as Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Savo Island, and Choiseul. In terms of the future, she is thinking about a Marine Corps Ground or a Surface Warfare Officer commission.
